It’s been just over a month since I’ve started my tour of America, and let me just say, I’m ready to go home. I’m over stressed at 24. I swear to god I’m graying. I miss my own bed, my own clothes, and cooking in my own kitchen… But mostly, I miss my routine. As a private consultant, I’m basically on the clock, 24/7. When people need work done, they call me, and I do it. Rain or shine, weekday or weekend. I have 0 paid vacation days… in fact, I have NO vacation days, but I can work from anywhere in the world; which does have its perks. I can work off the coast of the Philippines or from a ranch in Spain. But along with an unstable home base, comes an unstable routine. Time zones get crossed, deadlines sometimes get pushed, and I find myself pulling my hair out if there’s no access to wi-fi.
So I’ve had to set up a system to manage my stress.
While my routine is a bit… excessive… I wanted to scribble down a few easy tips for others suffering the same crazy schedules. There are certain poor lifestyle habits that make you more tired and more stressed without you even recognizing it! So I’m trying to spread the good word. In fact, one of the companies that I work with interviews major experts and scientists who speak on how to have more energy, vitality, and motivation. So I’ve created a cheat sheet of my top stress-killing methods for other overachiever (just like me!) to find some zen… in between yoga and Game of Thrones episodes of course.
1) Wear Blue Blocking Glasses
Every screen sends out a silent killer called “blue light” that tells your melatonin levels to shut down because you’re SUPER busy on The Facebook and desperately NEED to stay up. Unfortunately, melatonin is one of your body’s BEST natural antioxidants and cancer fighting hormones! So decreasing your melatonin production is a serious serious deal. Check out this cool podcast we did on the dangers of Blue Light and what you can do to keep your melatonin levels in check. I wear blue blocking glasses at night like these and I’ve installed F.lux on my computer to filter the blue light from my computer.
2) Pound probiotics or Kombucha
Introducing probiotics into your daily diet is the EASIEST way to fix a whole slew of bugs in your gut. You have these good and bad gut bacteria that dictate your day-to-day digestion AND dramatically impacts your long-term health issues (or lack there of). When you have enough bad bacteria in your tummy, it’ll get upset and start talking to you, you’ll suffer from hyper inflammation, and your mental performance will suffer too. But don’t just take my word for it, check out Dave Asprey’s kick ass podcast series Bulletproof Radio that’s SATURATED with awesome experts who talk about some of the latest information in nutrition and longevity. My favorite on the awesome benefits of probiotics is his interview with Dr. Grace Liu.
3) Sip Water With Lemon
Lemon is a kick ass immunity booster and balances your pH levels in your body. It also has a ton of essential minerals like calcium and magnesium and it’s just so damn yummy in sparkling water with a bit of mint. I went as far as to buy a sparkling soda water maker because it’s just so addicting! There’s tons of detoxing agents as well, but lemon water will be your best line of defense to keep yourself health even on a hectic schedule.
