4 Completely Safe Cities For Female Travelers in Asia

I’ve had A LOT of luck when it comes to not being kidnapped or murdered.  23 years and running.  Sometimes I do my research about safe cities for female travelers in Asia, but more often than not, I just head over and basically wing it. Sorry mom.  This list is based on my own personal opinions and observations and NOT based on the horror stories that you read on the news.  After living in China for the last year and a half, I’ve become painfully aware of media distortion when it comes to western and domestic media alike.  The most dangerous place I’ve ever been to is, and always will be, AMERICA.  I was held up at gun point in Los Angeles, robbed in New York City, and nearly jumped in Boston. Twice. It’s a crazy world we live in.

1) Beijing, China

I have to rep my former home hard because it was just SUCH an amazing experience.  It shattered any and all preconceptions that I had about China, the people, and the government.  In both good and bad ways.  Point is, Beijing is an incredibly safe Asia city because people are too afraid of what will happen to them if they threaten or hurt a foreigner. While there are a few freak incidents here and there, if there ever is a problem, it normally involves foreign males (yay!) and foreign females are treated like models instead in most cities.  Enjoy!

2) Siem Reap, Cambodia

I cannot say more good things about Siem Reap!  Not only did I get a massage EVERY DAMN DAY (because I can), but we walked around in a herd of women, or even alone, at night and during the day and we NEVER had any issues. In fact, we were on the streets of Siem Reap for New Years Eve 2014 and we met hoards of people traveling alone.  Cambodians are naturally friendly people and all of our Tuk Tuk drivers tried their hardest to take us home safe and sound… even if we were noticeably incapacitated.

3) Singapore

Famous for flogging street artists and other trouble-makers,  Singapore is one of the safest cities in the world because no one (and I mean no one) wants to risk facing corporal punishment.  Singapore is also CRAZY expensive so most people can’t afford to commit crime within the city center since rent is just too damn high!  Feel free to meet strangers at bars, clubs, and events without worrying about your personal safety, because that’s how life is suppose to be like.

4) Yangon, Myanmar

While Myanmar’s borders just recently opened, it’s one of the safest Asian cities I’ve ever been too.  The majority of locals that I met in Yangon were incredible helpful and friendly PLUS clubs and bars usually have an insane amount of security to prevent potential issues when alcohol comes into the picture.  If you’re taller than 5’7″, you’re also going to be bigger than most of the locals so they won’t dare mess with you!
