Since 23 Things came out in December, there have been loads of “response articles” popping up here and there about how I should be ashamed of myself for this and that… and this and that… oh and especially because of THAT. I don’t mean to be rude when I say (but I want to come off that way):
GET OVER IT. It’s April people.
I want to extend an olive branch of peace… but that would suggest that I feel like I did something wrong. I didn’t do a damn thing!… Other than get 5.2 million hits in 2 days. #humblebrag. Nevertheless, I think we should all hold hands and move forward with our lives, together. Please feel free to check out my other viral pieces, “I’m A Whore And You Probably Are Too” and “20 Things That Change About You After Moving To China” if you want some new material to get upset about.
However, I will not apologize for publishing 23 Things because I don’t negotiate with terrorists or cowards. The article made people think, it reached out to those who were struggling, and it was really fucking funny if I may say so myself. Whateva whateva, I do what I want.
And you should too.
“Mistakes” build character. They illustrate your limits; and they should not be taken for granted. I wouldn’t even categorize some of my more “questionable” decisions as mistakes because they were exactly what I wanted at that exact moment in my life. I am a romantic after all. I like to categorize these adventures into one continuous series called: “Vanessa’s Greatest Hits.” I look forward to sharing them with the world via the novel I’m working on, which is being written “as fiction” to protect the innocent; you know who you are.
